Taylor Swift Re-records Fearless
May 6, 2021
“Love Story” by Taylor Swift, a song that most have jammed out to since it first came out in the fall of 2008 has been one of the best- selling singles of all time, and Friday night at midnight Swift re- released the single and announced that her whole second album, “Fearless” would be re recorded and re-released.
Swift announced on Instagram that Friday Feb. 12, at midnight the singles re-recording would be released, and she was in the process of re-recording her first six albums.
“I’m thrilled to tell you that my new version of fearless is done and will be with you soon,” Swift said in the post, “It’s called ‘Fearless (Taylor’s version)’ and includes 26 songs.”
Rumor is that her whole second album “Fearless” will be released April 9th.
“I think the re-recordings will come out on April 9th because if you look at her thank you letter [on Instagram] for her re-recording of “ love story”, there’s a handful of capitalized letters together, it spells out April 9th,” junior Anthony Razo said.
Fans are really looking forward to the rendition of some of their favorite old Swift songs.
“I’m really excited for “15”, and “You belong with me” especially,” Junior Amberly Smith said, “I remember listening to that song and just singing with my friends. I’m so happy she made the decision to re-record because honestly, I think it’s going to be something everyone remembers for a long time.”
Now it wasn’t really a shock to fans when she announced the re-releases, because Swift was openly dealing with legal rights, but that doesn’t change the fact that they were still excited.
“I wasn’t really surprised at the fact that re-recordings were coming, I was surprised at how soon they were coming from when she announced it. My soul left my body for a second there,” Razo said.
Now many may be wondering why Swift decided to do the re-recordings, what’s the point? Why remake an album just for at least the first song to sound the exact same. Well it has to do with her past and who owns the rights to her old music.
In 2006 when Swift was only 15 she signed a record deal with Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Label Group, in this contract she signed away the rights to all of her music that she made while under the record company so that they could do what they wished with it, something she would eventually regret.
“This is my worst case scenario,” Swift said in a Tumblr post back in 2019, “This is what happens when you sign a deal at 15 to someone whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractible concept. ”
Unfortunately for Swift when she left Big Machine Label Group in 2018 she basically lost all hopes of ever owning the rights to any of her first six albums. Then in 2019 the label who owned the rights to Swift’s first six albums sold them to Scooter Braun, someone who Swift has “bad blood” with.
“All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years [referring to Braun],” Swift said in a Tumblr post, “Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it”.
Now because Braun had the rights he made it to where Swift couldn’t legally do anything with her first six albums, she couldn’t perform them live, authorise anyone else to use it, anything
But then lucky for Swift last year Braun sold the rights to an investment fund, so no one was gonna stop her from doing what she wanted with her first six albums.
“I’ve spoken a lot about why i’m remaking my first six albums, but the way i’ve chosen to do this will hopefully help illuminate where i’m coming from,” Swift said in an Instagram post.
So now with Braun out of the way it’s just a waiting game for the drop of the rest of the re recordings, but at least we have “Love Story” to tie everyone over till then.
“This process has been more fulfilling and emotional than I would’ve imagined and has made me even more determined to re-record all of my music.” Swift posed on Instagram, ”I hope you’ll like this first outing as much as I liked traveling back in time to recreate it. “Love Story (Taylor’s version)” will be out [now].”
