Girls Soccer Wins Region Qualifies for State.
Coyotes go undefeated in the Black Canyon region to clinch the first soccer playoff appearance in school history.
Big victories are hard won, and that’s just what the varsity Girl’s soccer team did against Washington 3-0 propelling them into the Arizona state playoffs.
The Coyotes (7-4) played an aggressive game against the Rams (3-7-1) pushing the ball down the field and keeping it away from their goal.
“We knew we had to win this game and we’re in the playoffs,” Coach Chris Azanger said. “So we won it.”
Confidence was high among the players after their victory.
“I think we were all really into it and we were just so motivated to get to the playoffs,” Junior Macey Williamson said. “Our hearts were really into it and we played tough.”
Despite this win, the Coyotes will face future challenges once in the playoffs.
“It’s going to be tough, it’s our first time ever going there. Right now it looks like we may have to play Flagstaff, in Flagstaff,” Azanger said. “So it’s going to be a huge disadvantage with the elevation and the weather.”
Defending goals on one hand and reaching goals on the other, the Coyotes are figuring out their next plan of attack.
“Our goal this whole season was to make it to playoffs because this is the first time that the soccer program at Combs has made it to playoffs,” Williamson said. “Now it’s a whole new field, we don’t know what’s going to happen next.”
The win against Washington will be one of the most memorable in Combs history according to Azanger.
“[It’s] going to go down as the best win we’ve ever had in our program,” Azanger said.
The Coyotes will play the No. 1 ranked Flagstaff Eagles at F.H.S. at 3 p.m. tomorrow. Follow the Combs Courier twitter feed (@CombsCourier) for live game updates.
