The Coyotes boys varsity soccer team ended their season with a nail biting 3-1, double-overtime win against the Apache Junction Prospectors at home Tuesday night.

The game was intense from start to finish, going without a goal for nearly three quarters of the game. Sophomore forward Diego Soto Esquivel scored the first goal at around the 20-minute mark in the second half. The Prospectors silenced the crowd less than 10 minutes later when they tied the game 1-1 with seven minutes to go. Remaining tied

Soto Esquivel scored two more goals in the second overtime period, pushing the Coyotes to their win of yet another Battle of Ironwood.

“I dedicated the hat-trick to all the seniors, I can’t believe I did that, I’m so proud of myself,” said Sophomore Soto Esquivel.

Being last game this was also senior night for a few of the boys. Ending this season with this battle was huge yet very emotional for seeing where the team is now verses where it was when they began.

“I think for us to come out with a win after many years against AJ I think it’s a good thing to end on,” said Senior Cole Brecht.

Coyotes closed out the season of three months with three victories two of them being the biggest games with our rivals. This is definitely a season they believe no one will forget.

“I remember driving here thinking this is it, last game ever, last game on this field, last game with my teammates and coach, it was definitely an eye opening season,” said senior Adrian Alcaraz.
