Charlie Brown; Coming Soon!

Madison Luostari, Staff Writer

Combs Curtain Calls first musical, “You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown” by Clark Gesner, based on the characters created by Charles M. Schulz begins tonight at 7 p.m. through May 12  and once again on May 14.

“Musical theater is a standard of high schools everywhere, I honestly was like I need to bite the bullet and do one now before the auditorium is finished.” Nicholas Smith said.

There are many reasons why Charlie Brown was chosen to be the first musical.

“There were a couple of considerations, one being the library and having limited space,” Smith said. “Another was [musicals] I find interesting and what [musicals] I think the general public would also find interesting.

Never having produced a musical before, Curtain Call faced new struggles. Junior Tynan Cameron (Charlie Brown) and freshman Laine Wise (Sally Brown) shared their experiences.

“There is just more to memorize. You have songs, you have to work on pitch and choreography,” Cameron said. “You also have to be focused on the fact that you are acting and you need to memorize your lines on top of that.”

Additional struggles that were faced were more on the mental side of things.

“I think the biggest struggle I’ve had with the musical is my own confidence and making sure that I’m comfortable,” Wise said.

Rehearsals are the biggest part of the whole production idea.

“Rehearsals are going really well, I have a very dedicated cast, so dedicated that they were even willing to work around the whole walk out situation and continue to work, which really means a lot to me as a director,” Smith said.

Tickets are $4 for students and $7 for adults, and all kids under 6 get in for free. Come support your Combs Curtain Call and see some theater!
